[I'll correct the date on this post soon, so it falls chronologically]
Since Miles starts kindergarten in the fall, we switched our usual fall beach trip to May. As usual, we couldn't even take time to get dressed on the first morning. We had to run right out and frolic in the sunrise surf in our jammies.
It's early, but it is a glorious time!
Our friends the Fishes joined us again, this time with two baby girls. Audrey and Elizabeth had lots of fun digging and running around on the beach together.
Because of some storms early in the week we got some great wind. Miles flew his awesome kite for a while and even let the girls hold onto it some.
The storms forced us to find alternate entertainment one day, so we trekked to Myrtle Beach for an aquarium visit. The kids all loved it and were amazed by the huge tanks full of fish.
After a the storms early in the week we had gorgeous blue skies every day.
Our neighbor friends happened to be staying nearby, so we met for dinner one night. At Chick fil A, of course.
Our favorite beach activity: digging holes.
Our favorite breakfast place: Eggs Up Grill
Best car ride toy: dry erase board with activity pages!
So this lack of text is why I should blog in a more timely manner. Oh well. Enjoy the photos!

His 1st Catch!
Miles went fishing from PopPop's sailboat yesterday, and here's his first catch! He loved it and is now a pro on the boat. We went sailing once, but the wind was a little high for them, making the water choppy. Today is nice and calm so we'll probably try again.

splash country
I have to blow this one up to get the full effect. We went to the lake with our neighbors this weekend and the kids had a blast. Oh, of course we did too. But can you see it on his face here? That is pure excitement. And no, mom, they weren't going that fast. Mike was nice and didn't flip them over like he did to Wayne last summer.
Audrey liked riding in the boat but she really liked s'mores on the dock.
Miles was so brave, he even jumped off the high dock several times!
We had so much fun, thanks Mike & Leslie for taking us, and thanks to our other awesome neighbors Beth & Dan for taking care of the pups for the night. We really appreciate it!!

The big 4-0!
Happy birthday, Wayne! On May 31st he turned the big 4-0 and we celebrated all weekend long. We went to Nashville to have a dinner party with the family, which Elizabeth graciously hosted for us. Mimi, PawPaw Don, Kyle and Megan were able to join us from Memphis, but unfortunately BeeBe & PopPop were already in NC and couldn't make it back. We ate yummy dinner and cake from Zoes Kitchen, which I really wish would open near us in Knoxville.
As usual, the cousins had a great time together. We had a pinata (Miles's idea) and Miles, Kate and Audrey each took a crack at it before Evan the Little Leaguer literally whacked its tail off.
Miles got some Jedi practice in. Yes, Tiffany, this one is in the "Miles's rehearsal dinner slideshow" file!
And Audrey warmed up to the cicadas, even helping with the hunt. Boy, were they loud! I'm glad they have skipped Knoxville for the swarm this year.
Wayne had a great time celebrating, thank you to our families for making it a special occasion for him!

Graduations
As May wraps up, we've had several graduations of sorts to attend. Both the kids were in Little Gym classes this spring, so we went to their Big Shows. As I was getting ready to take Audrey, I heard a strange sound coming from the kitchen. I came down the hall and found that she had brought her bike inside and was riding laps around the halls.
Off we went to her performance. She had a little stage fright during the warm-up, but by the time the routines started she was all smiles. She loved all the climbing and flipping she got to do. I hope she doesn't try to replicate the tricks at home.
Miles was in a karate-gymnastics hybrid class. It was not as regimented as the karate class we tried at a local place, but it was enough to satisfy him and to burn off some energy. He did learn a few ways to break holds, so watch out if you try to grab him! He really liked the "sword" play, which was very similar to light saber dueling.
Here are my stars with their medals.
The next day we had Miles's real Pre-K graduation. He had a graduation last year but it was a bit anti-climactic since he wasn't heading to kindergarten yet. But now he is gung-ho and can't wait. Here he is with the wonderful Ms. Candi, director of the preschool.
And here he is with some of his crazy buddies.
Now watch out kindergarten, here comes Miles!

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming...
The first month of swim lessons is now over, cut short by the weather this week. Audrey started her first swim class this year, now that she is old enough to go without mommy in the pool too! She is fearless and loved every minute. In fact, for a few lessons she was the only kid in her class who would even get in the water. By the last class when they were jumping off the side to the instructor, she would climb up on the starting block and jump from there. I have a feeling that she'll be pretty good by the end of the summer.
Miles continued where he left off and just got stronger and stronger. In the last class he swam the entire length of the pool with no noodle or support at all. When his instructor would have him jump in and swim to her, she kept backing up until he'd gone over halfway, and then he went all the way back to the wall. Next month he moves up to the highest level in his age group and will work on his strokes. He really likes the frog kick! Here's hoping for nice weather to keep us in the pool.

Two wheeler!
We took the training wheels off Miles's bike this week. We rode the greenways in the park near our house. This is the end of about 2 miles of practice! Here's a quick video, it's hard to do without another person:

Tornadic Activity
What a crazy weather week! A wild thunderstorm Monday did lots of damage around UT campus, and left so much debris that on Tuesday morning Wayne couldn't get to his office. Their power was out anyway, so he got a work-from-home pass.
Then on Wednesday, we were subjected to about 12 hours of tornado watches and warnings, along with some crazy lightning and hail storms. We survived with almost no damage, just some slight dimpling to my car that you have to really look to see. A few windows at Wayne's office got popped, but overall we were safe from the storm. The kids and I did ride out one warning in the closet, stocked up with snacks and flashlights.
Even the fur-kids wanted to seek shelter.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with all those devastated by this week's storms.

Easter weekend: highs and lows
Unfortunately Audrey was sick over Easter weekend, so we didn't get a cute family portrait in our Easter duds. She had a fever Friday, but that was gone by the morning. Saturday she dressed out for the neighborhood egg hunt but didn't even want to to hunt. Miles gathered some eggs for his sister, so she wasn't without. As Easter morning dawned, she woke up sick to her stomach. When she threw up as it was time to get dressed, we called it and Wayne stayed home with her. Miles and I enjoyed a beautiful service then joined Wayne and the recuperating Audrey at Waffle House. Oh well. At least she was fine after that, and all are well now!

The wedding
No, not THE wedding, yet. On April 2nd my youngest cousin Shannon married Joey in Memphis. I was honored to read the first reading and Audrey was one of the flower girls. Here she is in practice mode.
The rehearsal dinner was catered at the Pink Palace, a beautiful setting for the evening. Wayne & I were seated next to the bar.
And also with my brother & Megan, Tiffany and my parents. Shannon came to greet us after the toasts.
Here are the girls ready for their big debut. People kept calling them angels, but Ellie (Tiffany's daughter, the brunette) was quick to correct: "We're PRINCESSES."
The little princesses with the Princess.
I was a little nervous about how they'd do down the aisle of a packed church, but they all seemed to love the audience. They walked tossing petals and smiling sweetly all the way to the altar.
The reception was on the riverfront and it was a fantastic spring evening. The groom's cake gave a not-so-subtle nod to his favorite past time.
The best part of the whole weekend is that the two monkeys seen here...
Got to visit with all of the grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins along the way! They stayed at my dad's house, so I still need to get copies of their photos to share. We stopped and Mimi & Pawpaw's house for a visit.
And and Aunt Elizabeth & Uncle Shay's, where we played with YaYa & B and the cousins. Here is their "crazy" picture.
It was such a wonderful weekend, and we wish Shannon and Joey a lifetime of happiness!
